Porcelain dessert plate from Sanssouci collection. Article by Rosenthal.
In 1745 Frederick the Great had the new Sanssouci Palace built in Potsdam and also commissioned to create a specially laid table. In this period the architecture and interior decoration were seen as an indissoluble unity. The relief of Rosenthal's "Sanssouci" porcelain service reflects with its delicate structure the Rococo style of the "Great Hall" of Sanssouci Castle. The service was highly regarded and imitated by numerous producers. But only Rosenthal obtained in 1894 the license from the royal porcelain manufactory to create this faithful service to the original. It has never been modified and still corresponds to the original service today.
